There are many things that you can do with old bottles. Not only is it a way to get creative and create something new, it is also environmentally conscious to repurpose old things into new things.
I recently made the tumblers and candle stick holders shown below using a bottle cutting kit.
They are not quite finished yet. I still have some sanding and cleaning up to do on them. The bottle cutting kit I used is Ephrem's Bottle Cutting Kit and came with everything I needed to do this project, except for the bottles.
I made a video of the process. Watch how easy it can be to cut a bottle into two pieces. After watching the video, I want you to think of some project ideas. What are some different ways you can repurpose old bottles?
This was very popular about 30 years ago. In fact, there was a TV commercial for a kit to cut bottles and polish the rims to make drinking glasses, vases and other household items.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your posts.
This is a great idea. Repurposing items from the past is all the rage and I think my middles school students would really enjoy this . We have clubs at MMS and with a little help I think this would be a great project for mine, which happens to be crafts. Not only would the students be gaining an appreciation for the process, but they will most likely dig through family items and learn a little about the past from family members and friends. Most students at Milton have family or friends with ties to Blenko so this will be a great project for them!
ReplyDeleteCool way to reuse glass. It is interesting to see how trash can be made in something pretty.
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get this kit??? I see ways of doing this on Pintrest but also hear about horrible failed attempts. haha. This would be a fun activity to do on those late starts, assmebly, or 2 hour delay days.
ReplyDeleteMy friend bought the kit on amazon for $30. She said there were other kits but this one had the best reviews.
